New York City Annual Events
January
Chinese New Year Parade - First full moon between Jan 21 and Feb 19
Prepare for a noisy and colorful celebration which lasts from noon to sunset around Mott St. Though dragons still dance in the street, firecrackers no longer chase away evil spirits because former Mayor Giuliani banned them for most events. It is very difficult to find a meal in Chinatown during this celebration.
New York Times Arts and Leisure Week
Held at the Times Center on 41st Street, this weeklong event offers tribute to some of today's most celebrated talent and thinkers from the areas of art, theater, music, film, literature, television, politics and media.
Three Kings Day Parade
El Museo del Barrio offers the Annual Three Kings Day Parade to K-12 school children, families, East Harlem residents and all of New York City. Learn about the tradition of Three Kings Day, a festive holiday observed in Puerto Rico, the greater Caribbean, Latin America, and throughout the United States. El Museo’s dynamic parade will be led by the Three Kings, parade Marshals, Madrinas, Padrinos, and live camels, sheep, and donkeys, winding through the streets of El Barrio showcasing lively music, colorful costumes, and bright floats. An educational theatre program will precede the parade which will include folkloric music and dance performances as well an introduction to the cultural traditions associated with this holiday in Latin America and the Caribbean.
